Top marks for BEMS at London University
Concord Environmental Technologies Limited is proud to maintain the Trend BEMS (Building Energy Management System) within one of the UK’s premier universities in London, working for one of the world’s largest providers of building and facilities management (FM) services. The university is spread over several campuses, with the majority based in the heart of the City and through to north London.
Integrated Communication Through a Secure Network
In order for the BEMS controls within the individual buildings to be able to communicate with each other and the BEMS central monitoring station, the entire BEMS utilises the university’s TCP/IP local area network (LAN), which provides a maintained and secure platform.
The system’s central monitoring station exists on one of the university’s servers, providing a graphical user interface system to those operators with appropriate security access levels, using web-browsing software via their PCs, which are also connected to the university’s LAN.
A Trusted Partnership
Concord has a long-standing relationship with both the university and facilities management provider. Since initially being engaged to maintain the BEMS controls across all of the university’s campuses, Concord has continued to work with the team, providing on-going system enhancements as well as Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and break-down cover.
Managing Ageing Systems Within Budget
The Trend BEMS controls installed across the university are of varying ages, with the older equipment being installed in excess of 20-years ago.
Concord has always worked closely with both the university and FM team to operate within budgetary constraints, keeping older equipment operational until funds become available for its replacement.
Balancing Comfort and Energy Efficiency
Providing comfortable conditions for the university’s students, lecturers and visitors is important, as is reducing energy consumption.
Concord has worked with the university over the years to continuously improve and enhance the system, with existing and new equipment being added to the BEMS.
Award-Winning Energy Conservation
The system enhancements have been focused on energy conservation, and have to date considerably reduced the university’s energy bills.
Made in collaboration with the university’s residing energy manager, the enhancements actually led to the university winning an award for energy conservation.
