BEMS Premier Performance at ExCel, London
Concord Environmental Technologies Limited is proud to maintain the Trend BEMS (Building Energy Management System) within ExCeL, one of the UK’s premier exhibition centres in London. Concord has provided maintenance and support services to the building since it originally installed the BEMS within the phase-1 building of the venue in 2007.
Commitment to Sustainability
With a defined sustainability agenda, the exhibition centre works to continually review and improve its environmental practices to ensure its plant and building services infrastructure continues to operate as efficiently as possible. So, when its original BEMS needed upgrading, Concord was there to assist.
Concord recommended replacing the existing system with IQ3 series web-based controls, manufactured by Trend Control Systems Ltd., giving greater control and new features to help the building management team.
Upgrading to IQ3 Web-Based Controls
Using standard web-browsing software on their PCs, the authorised users could access the BEMS central monitoring station, which is the graphical user interface to the main system.
Using TCP/IP networking technologies, the BEMS within both the phase-1 and phase-2 buildings was integrated with the exhibition centre’s TCP/IP local area network (LAN). This provided unrivalled network resilience and allowed users with the correct security credentials to use the building’s network to access the BEMS.
Comprehensive System Management
The BEMS does not only operate the general Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) equipment within ExCeL, but also operates all of the electricity substations serving the venue. As a result, should a power outage occur, the BEMS would stage power back on to the building sequentially, in order to provide power to systems in occupied areas without exceeding the venue’s maximum demand.
Longstanding Support and Innovation
Since the installation of the original system, Concord has continued to provide ExCeL with support and innovation, adding additional third party systems to the BEMS and running system upgrades.
Adapting to Smart Technologies
The Trend 963 BMS Supervisor that formed part of the 2007 upgrade used state of the art technology at the time of installation, but with evolvement in smart technologies, the team wanted to be able to highlight and investigate energy use and comfort conditions via their Apple iPhones. As a result, one of Concord’s latest projects has involved replacing the existing BEMS central monitoring station with Trend’s latest offering that can do just that.
Next-Generation Building Management
The IQ®VISION Supervisor uses current technologies to provide the venue with a next generation system that is capable of Trend controllers, third party smart devices and internet protocols in a centralised software platform that is designed to manage buildings at an enterprise level, and give building owners and managers the ability to identify issues and optimise their systems.
